Welcome newborns... to life and quilting!
Dear Quilting Friends,
And recently, I received a letter announcing a different kind of birth: the birth of a quilter! The note was from Pat in California, who proudly wrote to tell me about her 11-year-old granddaughter, Chelsea. Using the Pumpkin Patch pattern from Quilt magazine's August/September issue #81, Chelsea pieced her very first quilt! With grandmother’s assistance to machine quilt her top, Chelsea now has a lovely quilt on her bed. She even bought a sewing machine with her own money and attended her very first quilt show. A big welcome and cheer for Chelsea as she takes her first steps into the quilting world!
It’s the time of the year when love (and spring) is in the air, so it’s only appropriate to present some quilt projects and fresh ideas from the heart. We have several fun projects, such as a bright kite and a quilted heart valentine. In celebration of our first president’s birthday, we are featuring Washington's Puzzle. Remember all those pretty hankies in your grandmother’s dresser drawer? There is a lovely quilt idea to put them on display. Just like picking from a box of chocolates, I think you’ll have a hard time deciding which project to make first!
Maybe there's someone in your life — young or old — who would like to become a quilter. Remember your first quilt and the joy you felt when it was completed? Why not take the time to share the love of quilting with someone else? You will be glad you did — and they will be, too!
Until next time,
